The Dragon Who Sparked Joy
Pip was a very small dragon with shimmering orange scales, but he had a big problem. While all the other young dragons could breathe fierce fire, Pip could only cough up tiny, harmless sparks.
'I'm useless,' Pip sighed, sitting in his favorite garden spot. He nibbled on a leaf of spinach from the magical garden—the only thing that made him feel better when he was sad.
One evening, a terrible storm rolled over the mountains. Lightning crackled across the dark sky, thunder shook the dragon caves, and rain poured down in sheets. The elder dragons huddled inside, but Pip wandered to the cave entrance, watching the magnificent lightning bolts dance across the clouds.
'It's so beautiful,' he whispered. A bolt of lightning struck nearby, and for a moment, Pip felt its power tingle through his scales.
Suddenly, he heard a tiny squeak. A little rabbit was trapped in the mud, shivering and scared, unable to escape the rising floodwaters.
Pip tried to roar fire to warm and frighten the rabbit free, but only a few sad sparks came out. The rabbit looked at him with frightened eyes.
'No!' Pip cried. 'I need to help!' He concentrated with all his might, thinking about how warm and comforting the garden spinach made him feel, how bright the lightning was, how vibrant his orange scales shone in the dark.
Something amazing happened. Instead of fire, Pip breathed out swirling, glowing orange sparks that danced in the air like miniature lightning bolts. They didn't burn—they warmed! The magical sparks created a cozy, glowing pathway that lit up the muddy area and warmed the frightened rabbit.
The rabbit hopped along the sparkly path to safety, then looked back and winked at Pip.
From that night on, Pip understood something important: being different wasn't bad at all. His orange sparks couldn't burn villages or scare enemies, but they could light up dark places and warm cold hearts. Sometimes, the magic that makes you different is exactly what the world needs.
And every time he used his special gift, Pip made sure to eat some spinach first—for good luck, and for the reminder that even the humblest leaf can hold the mightiest magic.
