The Dragon in the Lightning Pool
Mia loved summer storms. While other children hid indoors, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky light up.
One evening, when her parents were distracted by a movie, Mia slipped outside. The rain felt like magic on her skin. She started running toward the forest, splashing through puddles that shimmered like liquid silver.
Suddenly, lightning flashed—a brilliant bolt that struck the ground just ahead. Where it hit, water bubbled up from nowhere, forming a perfect circle pool that glowed with an inner light.
Mia approached slowly. The water wasn't ordinary. It sparkled with tiny rainbows, and little ripples danced across its surface even though the rain had stopped falling around it.
'Hello?' she whispered.
A splash answered her. Up from the glowing pool rose a creature no bigger than her hand—a tiny dragon made entirely of water! Its scales droplets reflected light like prisms. Wings of mist fluttered on its back.
'I'm Splash!' the dragon bubbled. 'Finally, someone who isn't afraid of lightning storms!'
Mia's eyes widened. 'You're real!'
'As real as friendship,' Splash said. 'Lightning magic creates me for just one hour. Want to play?'
They raced around the forest—Mia running through grass, Splash gliding through puddles. Splash showed Mia how every raindrop held a story, how thunder was actually the clouds singing, how lightning was nature's way of painting the sky.
'Come back tomorrow,' Mia begged as Splash began to fade. 'During every storm!'
'Only if you promise something,' Splash said, growing translucent. 'Promise you'll never stop running toward adventure—even when others stay inside. Brave hearts find the best magic.'
'I promise!' Mia waved as her new friend dissolved back into the pool, which evaporated into mist.
Mia ran home, wet and wonderful. She couldn't wait for the next storm—and neither could the tiny water dragon waiting in the lightning, ready to make another friend brave enough to discover the magic in stormy skies.
