The Dog Who Wanted to Swim

Max was a small golden dog with big dreams. Every day, he would trot to the edge of the old swimming pool in Mrs. Willow's backyard and peer at the glittering blue water. But Max couldn't swim. He was afraid.

One hot summer afternoon, something magical happened. A tiny orange goldfish popped her head above the water. Her scales shimmered like sunset jewels.

Hello, dog, said the goldfish. I'm Marina. Why do you look so sad?

Max's tail wagged hopefully. I wish I could swim like you.

Marina swam closer. In my home, the Ocean of Dreams, goldfish can swim and dogs can too. Would you like to visit?

Max's eyes widened. Yes!

Marina sprinkled magic sparkles from her fins onto Max's nose. Suddenly, the pool water began to glow. Max stepped onto the water, and to his surprise, he didn't sink! He floated!

I'm swimming! Max barked joyfully.

Marina laughed. In the Ocean of Dreams, anyone can swim if they believe in themselves.

They played for hours, chasing imaginary fish and racing across the sparkling water. Max discovered he was brave after all. As sunset painted the sky pink, Marina had to return home.

Thank you, Marina, Max said. I learned that being brave doesn't mean you're not afraid. It means trying anyway.

Marina smiled. And I learned that friendship is the greatest magic of all.

Max visited the pool every day after that. Sometimes he saw Marina, and sometimes he didn't. But he was never sad again, because he knew the magic was inside him all along. And whenever he felt afraid, he would remember: courage is just friendship with your own brave heart.
