The Dog Who Swam with Lightning

Barnaby was a dog who was afraid of everything. He was afraid of loud noises, afraid of the dark, and especially afraid of water. He wouldn't even go near a puddle!

One afternoon, Barnaby was exploring the beach when he spotted something amazing—an orange sea turtle with a glowing shell that sparkled like tiny stars. The turtle was stuck in a tide pool, unable to reach the ocean.

"Please help me!" said the turtle, whose name was Splash. "I need to get back to my family before the storm comes!"

Barnaby wanted to help, but the tide pool was deep, and he would have to go swimming. His legs trembled.

Suddenly, the sky darkened. CRASH! A bolt of lightning flashed across the clouds, turning them purple and pink. But this wasn't ordinary lightning—it danced across the sky like ribbons of light, and Barnaby could hear it singing a soft melody.

"That's Sky Lightning!" Splash exclaimed. "It only appears when someone is about to do something very brave. It's lighting your path, Barnaby!"

Barnaby looked at the magical lightning, then at Splash's worried orange face. He took a deep breath and stepped into the water. To his surprise, it felt warm and friendly, like a hug. He began swimming, paddling his paws, feeling light as a feather.

The lightning guided them through the waves, creating a sparkling path. Barnaby carried Splash on his back, feeling stronger than he ever had before. When they reached deep water, Splash slid off and swam joyfully around Barnaby.

"You did it!" Splash cheered. "You're the bravest dog in the world!"

Barnaby realized something wonderful: being brave doesn't mean not being afraid. Being brave means doing what's right even when you ARE afraid.

From that day on, Barnaby still got scared sometimes, but he never let fear stop him from helping a friend. And whenever he needed courage, he would look up at the sky, remembering the magical lightning that helped a fearful dog discover how brave he could be.
