The Dog Who Swam Among Stars
Lily's golden retriever Buster was the most ordinary dog in the world. He chased tennis balls, napped in sunny patches, and dreamed about bones. But every night at midnight, Buster did something extraordinary.
He would tiptoe to the garden and look up at the moon, waiting for Mrs. Peabody, the elderly neighbor who lived next door. She would lean out her window with a small silver box and toss something glittering into the air. Buster would catch it in his mouth—a tiny, glowing moon vitamin that sparkled like captured starlight.
"Come back safely, space pup!" Mrs. Peabody would whisper with a wink.
Buster would swallow the vitamin, and suddenly his paws would float off the ground. His fur would shimmer with stardust. Then, like a fish in an invisible ocean, he would start swimming—paddling through the night sky, diving between constellations, and racing past the moon.
One night, Lily woke up thirsty and saw Buster floating outside her window. Her eyes grew wide as plates. "Buster? Is that you?"
Buster looked guilty, but then he did something amazing. He swam over to her window and tapped on the glass with his nose. When Lily opened it, Buster nudged her hand, then looked at the moon vitamin box on Mrs. Peabody's windowsill.
"You want me to go with you?" Lily gasped.
Mrs. Peabody appeared at her window, smiling. "I wondered when you'd discover our secret, dear. Buster's been waiting for someone to share his adventures with. These vitamins are made of moon magic—they don't just let dogs swim among stars. They let children with brave hearts join them too."
That night, Lily took her first midnight vitamin, and together she and Buster went swimming through the Milky Way, past Saturn's rings, and played tag with shooting stars.
"The best adventures," Mrs. Peabody told them later, "are the ones you share with friends."
And every night since, when the moon rises high, you might see two figures swimming among the stars—a girl and her dog, glowing like tiny moons, having the greatest adventure in the universe.
