The Dog Who Made Rainbows
Barnaby was a small brown dog with floppy ears and a very big dream. He wanted to make magic.
One sunny morning, Barnaby found something strange growing in Mrs. Green's garden. It wasn't a flower. It wasn't a tree. It was a patch of bright green spinach leaves, shimmering with tiny sparkles.
Barnaby sniffed the magical spinach. ZING! His tail turned purple. ZAP! His paws started glowing like little stars.
"Oh my!" Barnaby barked, but his bark sounded like silver bells.
He ran to the old water pump in the village square. When Barnaby touched the pump with his glowing paw, something amazing happened. The water didn't just flow down — it danced UP!
Sparkling water twisted and turned, forming rainbow arches across the sky. Blue water made blue arcs. Pink water made pink ones. Gold water made golden bridges that shined so bright, people had to squint.
Children laughed and jumped through the water rainbows. Their clothes got wet, but nobody cared. The water felt like warm hugs and smelled like cotton candy.
But then the magic spinach started wilting. The rainbow water began to fade.
Barnaby knew what to do. He raced back to Mrs. Green's garden and carefully planted more spinach seeds around the magical patch. He dug holes with his paws. He carried water in his mouth (spilling most of it, but that's okay).
Every day, Barnaby visited the garden. He watered the seeds. He protected them from birds. He even sang dog songs to help them grow.
Three weeks later, the spinach grew back — bigger and brighter than before. Now Barnaby could make rainbow water whenever he wanted.
The children asked, "Why do you do it, Barnaby?"
Barnaby wagged his purple tail. Because making magic isn't about being special. It's about taking care of things, even tiny spinach seeds, and sharing joy with everyone.
Now every afternoon, if you look up at just the right time, you might see Barnaby the dog making rainbow water dance across the sky. And if you listen closely, you might hear him bark — which still sounds exactly like silver bells.
