The Dog Who Made Lightning Spinach

Max loved his dog Barnaby more than anything. Barnaby was a golden retriever with a heart as big as his fluffy tail. Every afternoon, they'd play catch in the backyard with Max's baseball.

One day, a lightning storm chased them inside. But Barnaby wouldn't stop barking at the garden! Max peeked through the rain and saw something strange—green hands were popping up from the spinach patch!

"It's a zombie!" Max gasped. But when he looked closer, he saw it wasn't scary at all. It was a friendly garden zombie made of magical spinach leaves, wearing an old baseball cap.

The spinach zombie held up a muddy baseball and grinned. "Play?" it croaked happily.

Max couldn't believe it! He grabbed his glove and ran outside, rain and all. Barnaby bounded after him, wagging his tail so hard it looked like it might fly off.

The game was amazing. The spinach zombie could throw lightning-fast pitches! When Max hit the ball, it crackled with actual lightning and soared over the fence. Barnaby chased every ball, returning them covered in happy muddy kisses.

After the game, the zombie gave Max a special gift: magical spinach leaves that made anyone who ate them run faster and jump higher. "Come back tomorrow," the zombie whispered, disappearing back into the garden.

Max learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking things can turn out to be the most wonderful friends—and that a little rain and lightning can make the best baseball games even better.
