The Dog Who Loved Orange Water

Penny was skipping stones at Miller's Pond when something strange happened. The morning sun painted the water a shimmering orange, like melted sunshine spreading across the surface. She leaned closer, mesmerized by how the ripples turned the whole pond into a giant orange swimming pool.

Suddenly, a small dog popped up from beneath the orange water! He was the silliest-looking dog Penny had ever seen—his fur was dripping wet, and his orange hair stuck up in every direction like he'd been styling it with a balloon. He shook himself dry, sending orange droplets flying everywhere.

"I'm Barnaby!" the dog announced. "And you've stepped into the Magic Minute—it happens once every hundred years when the sun meets the pond just right. Everything I touch turns to orange for exactly one minute!"

Before Penny could respond, Barnaby touched a nearby rock. POOF! It turned into a delicious orange. He touched a tree branch. WHOOSH! It became an orange balloon floating toward the sky.

"Quick!" Barnaby cried. "Make a wish! The Magic Minute won't last!" Penny closed her eyes tight. "I wish... I wish my little brother could see this magic too!"

The water suddenly rippled, and in the reflection, she saw her brother running toward them, his orange hair glowing like a halo in the sunlight. Barnaby had done something even better than magic—he'd brought someone special to share it with.

As the orange faded from the pond, leaving it blue and ordinary again, Penny realized something wonderful: the real magic wasn't the orange water or the transforming touches. The real magic was sharing wonders with someone you love.

Barnaby winked and disappeared beneath the water, leaving only one orange behind—a perfect reminder that the best adventures are the ones we share together.
