The Dog Who Could Float

Lily discovered the secret on a Tuesday morning. Barnaby, her golden retriever, had been acting strange lately—staring at the thick black cable that snaked through their backyard, his tail twitching with curiosity.

"What is it, boy?" Lily knelt beside him. The cable hummed with a mysterious energy.

Suddenly, Barnaby bit the cable gently—and began to float! His paws left the grass, his golden fur shimmering like starlight. Lily gasped as she grabbed his paw, and together they drifted upward, higher and higher, past the treetops, into a world painted in sunset colors.

"Whoa!" breathed Lily. Barnaby barked happily, his bark sounding like tiny bells.

They landed on a floating island where a large polar bear sat, wearing a wizard's hat made of woven orange peels. The bear's white fur sparkled like fresh snow.

"Welcome!" boomed the bear. "I am Professor Berringway, guardian of the Sky Islands. You've discovered the floating cable—only those with pure hearts can find it."

Professor Berringway led them to a magnificent tree. Its branches drooped with the most enormous oranges Lily had ever seen. "These are special oranges," he explained. "Each one contains a magical vitamin that grants a unique gift."

He handed Lily a glowing orange. "This one gives courage. Take it when you need it most."

Lily tucked it into her pocket. "But how do we get home?"

Barnaby nudged her, then tugged at the cable still attached to his collar. Professor Berringway chuckled. "Ah, yes. Hold tight to your floating friend!"

Gripping Barnaby's paw, they slid down the magical cable, spiraling through clouds and colors, landing softly in their own backyard. The cable shimmered and disappeared.

"Did that really happen?" Lily whispered. Barnaby licked her cheek, his fur still glittering with tiny specks of starlight. The orange in her pocket glowed warmly.

Lily smiled. Some secrets were meant to be shared between best friends.
