The Dog Who Collected Moonlight
Leo had a secret. His golden retriever, Luna, could do something impossible. When moonlight shone through her fur, she glowed like a tiny sun.
One evening, Luna nudged Leo's hand with her wet nose and dropped something into his palm—a shimmering blue berry that sparkled like a captured star.
"Courage vitamin," Luna whispered, though dogs don't usually speak. But then, most dogs don't collect moonlight either.
Leo's little sister Maya was scared of everything. Thunder, shadows, even her own closet. Luna's magical berries could help her. Each one held a different kind of bravery. The blue ones for dark rooms, amber ones for storms, pink ones for meeting new friends.
Every night, Leo and Luna climbed to the roof, where Luna combed moonlight from the sky with her paws. Leo slipped each glowing berry into his palm, keeping them safe in a glass jar.
But the berries only worked if given with friendship. Leo braided palm fronds from their backyard into a long cable, connecting his room to Maya's. Through this green thread, he slid the vitamins across—blue for nightmares, amber for thunder, pink for the first day of school.
One night, a storm snapped the palm cable in half. Maya called out in the dark, terrified. Leo grabbed Luna and rushed to her room, but his pocket was empty. No berries left.
Maya's eyes filled with tears. Then Luna licked her cheek, and her fur began to glow—not from moonlight, but from something else. Love.
"The magic wasn't in the berries," Leo realized. "It was in friendship."
Maya hugged Luna tight. The storm raged outside, but inside, everything was warm and bright.
From then on, Maya still got scared sometimes. But she knew she didn't need magic vitamins. She had a brave big brother, a dog who collected moonlight, and an invisible cable of friendship that could never, ever break.
And that was the strongest magic of all.
