The Dog Who Chased Magic

Leo loved two things more than anything: his golden dog named Sunshine, and playing baseball in the backyard. Every afternoon after school, they'd play catch until the sun painted the sky orange.

One Tuesday, something magical happened. Leo's dad handed him an old iphone from the junk drawer. "It doesn't work anymore," Dad said. "But you can have it for pretend."

Leo pretended the iphone was a magic device that could talk to animals. That night, as the orange moon rose, Sunshine pawed at Leo's hand, then at the baseball on Leo's nightstand. The dog whined softly, looking at the window.

Leo grabbed the iphone and followed Sunshine outside. Under the orange glow of streetlights, his dog dug frantically near the old oak tree. Suddenly, something glowed in the dirt—a perfectly round, orange baseball!

But it wasn't just any baseball. When Leo picked it up, it hummed with warm light. The old iphone in his pocket suddenly buzzed to life, showing twinkling stars and the words: "THE MAGIC BALL HELPS THOSE WHO HELP OTHERS."

Sunshine barked happily, tail wagging. At the baseball field the next day, Leo saw a new kid crying alone. His name was Marco, and nobody would pick him for their team because he'd never played before.

Leo remembered the magic ball's message. "Hey Marco! Want to learn?" The orange ball seemed to sparkle brighter as Leo taught Marco how to throw and catch. By sunset, Marco was grinning, Sunshine was racing after flies, and they'd made a new friend.

That night, the magic baseball glowed one last time, then became ordinary. But Leo didn't mind. Some magic, he realized, lasts forever—like friendship, a loyal dog, and kindness shared with others.

The broken iphone never worked again, but Leo kept it anyway. Sometimes the real magic isn't in things at all, but in how we use them to help others.
