The Dog Who Chased Lightning
Luna loved running through the meadow behind her house, with Barnaby, her golden retriever, bounding happily beside her. Every afternoon after school, they would race each other to the old oak tree at the edge of the woods.
One stormy evening, as lightning flashed across the dark purple sky, Luna spotted something strange—a glowing pyramid floating above the tall grass! It shimmered like a rainbow, and tiny sparks danced around its edges.
"Barnaby, look!" Luna whispered, grabbing her dog's fuzzy paw. The pyramid drifted lower, and suddenly, a tiny creature no bigger than a butterfly zipped out from between its sides. It had wings like a hummingbird and left a trail of sparkling dust.
"I'm Padel!" the creature squeaked, doing loop-de-loops around Luna's nose. "I'm a storm sprite, and I'm in big trouble! My pyramid is fading because I forgot to collect the magic from tonight's lightning!"
Luna's eyes widened. "We can help!"
Padel shook his tiny head. "Only the pure of heart, who run with the speed of joy, can catch lightning before it hits the ground. Are you brave enough?"
Barnaby barked loudly, as if saying, "We're the bravest!"
So Luna grabbed Barnaby's collar, and together they ran—faster than they'd ever run before—chasing the next bolt of lightning across the meadow. The wind whooshed through Luna's hair, and Barnaby's ears flopped wildly as they sprinted. Just as the lightning was about to strike, Luna reached up and caught it in her palm! It didn't hurt at all—it felt like holding a warm, glowing jellyfish.
Padel cheered and guided the lightning into his floating pyramid, which suddenly blazed with brilliant colors. "Thank you!" he cried, hugging Luna's nose. "You and your dog have saved the storm magic forever!"
From that day on, whenever storms rolled through the valley, Luna and Barnaby would run through the meadow, catching lightning with their new friend Padel, turning scary storms into magical adventures.
