The Dog Who Chased Lightning
Maya was a curious girl who loved exploring with her golden retriever, Barnaby. One autumn afternoon, they were **running** through the meadow behind her house when they noticed something strange. A pile of **orange** leaves had arranged itself into a perfect **pyramid** shape, glowing softly in the fading light.
"Look, Barnaby!" Maya whispered. The pyramid shimmered like it was made from tiny pieces of a sunset.
Suddenly, the sky darkened. A single bolt of **lightning** flashed—not from the clouds, but from the pyramid itself! It crackled with purple and gold sparks, swirling around the glowing leaves like dancers at a magical ball.
Barnaby's tail wagged furiously. He bounded toward the pyramid, but Maya caught his collar just in time.
"Wait, boy! We don't know what it is."
But Barnaby whined and pulled free. As he approached, the lightning changed. It became gentle, wrapping around him like a warm blanket. The pyramid didn't scare him—it welcomed him.
Maya's fear melted into wonder. She stepped forward, and the orange leaves began to float upward, carrying them both into a sky painted with stars. Below, their small town looked like a patchwork quilt of twinkling lights.
"The pyramid was a doorway," Maya breathed. "Barnaby, you were right all along."
They floated back down as the first real raindrops fell. The orange leaves scattered across the grass, ordinary now. But the magic remained in Maya's heart.
That night, tucked in bed with Barnaby curled at her feet, Maya learned something important: sometimes courage means following your friends into the unknown, even when you're afraid. And the best adventures often start with a little bit of running toward something wonderful.
