The Dog Who Chased Lightning
Barnaby was a small scruffy dog with floppy ears and a big heart. He lived in a cozy house with Mrs. Higgins, but his favorite spot was beside the goldfish bowl in the sunny corner of the kitchen.
Every day, Barnaby would watch Goldie swim gracefully through her crystal castle. "One day," Barnaby would whisper, "I'll swim with you, Goldie."
Goldie would bubble up to the surface and wiggle her shiny orange scales. She was no ordinary goldfish—she was magical, though only Barnaby knew.
One afternoon, a fierce thunderstorm rolled across the valley. Barnaby cowered under the kitchen table until he saw something amazing—lightning struck the old oak tree in the yard, and where it hit, a glowing golden apple appeared.
"Barnaby!" Goldie's voice echoed in his mind. "The lightning fruit! It grants one wish to those brave enough to find it!"
Barnaby's paws trembled, but he thought of all the lonely animals in the world. He dashed through the rain, his fur plastered against his sides. When he reached the tree, something enormous blocked his path—a massive black bull with horns like crescent moons.
The bull lowered his head and snorted. Barnaby froze, but then he noticed the bull's eyes were sad, not angry.
"Are you lonely too?" Barnaby asked softly.
The bull blinked. "No one ever talks to me. They just run away."
"I'm Barnaby. Would you like to be friends?"
The bull's grumpy face softened into a smile. "I'm Brutus. I've always wanted a friend."
Together, they reached the golden fruit. Barnaby made his wish: "I wish that every lonely creature could find a friend."
The lightning fruit burst into a thousand sparkles that floated across the world like fireflies.
That night, Barnaby returned home with Brutus trotting happily beside him. Mrs. Higgins didn't mind the new guest—she'd always wanted a bull to help in the garden.
And Goldie? She swam in her bowl, her orange scales glowing brighter than ever, knowing that magic had brought four friends together: one scruffy dog, one magical goldfish, one gentle bull, and one perfect lightning wish.
Sometimes the best adventures start with being brave enough to say hello.
