The Dog Who Caught Stars
Barnaby was no ordinary dog. While other dogs chased squirrels, Barnaby chased dreams. Every night, he'd sit on his front porch, golden tail wagging, watching the stars twinkle like tiny baseballs thrown across the sky.
One magical evening, Barnaby heard a faint crying from the forest. His ears perked up. Running on swift paws, he followed the sound deeper into the woods than he'd ever dared go. Fireflies danced around him like tiny lanterns, lighting his way.
There, sitting on a mossy log, was the biggest, most gentle bear Barnaby had ever seen. But this bear wasn't dangerous — he was crying.
"What's wrong?" Barnaby asked kindly.
"I dropped my lucky star," the bear sniffled. "I was playing catch with the moon, and it fell somewhere in these woods. Without it, I can't make wishes come true for the children who visit my forest."
Barnaby's heart swelled. He loved helping children! "I'll help you find it! I'm very good at finding things."
Together, the new friend searched everywhere. They looked under ferns and behind waterfalls. They asked wise old owls and chattering squirrels. But the star was nowhere to be found.
Then Barnaby had an idea. "I'm great at catching things! Maybe I can catch it like I catch baseballs in the sky."
The bear's eyes widened. "But it's floating in the pond!"
Barnaby peered into the water. Sure enough, something glimmered beneath the surface like a fallen star. But the water was too deep for a dog.
"I'll help!" said the bear, and gently lowered Barnaby on his giant fuzzy back. Barnaby leaned over, teeth gently grasping the glowing stone.
"Got it!" Barnaby barked happily.
The bear's star was saved! That night, every child who wished upon a star had their wish come true. And Barnaby gained the best friend anyone could ever ask for. They played catch together every evening — the bear throwing stars, and Barnaby catching them in his dreams.
