The Dog Who Caught Lightning

Lily loved stormy days. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance.

One rainy afternoon, something magical happened. A scruffy brown dog appeared in her backyard, his fur standing up like he'd been rubbed with balloons. His hair stuck out in every direction!

"I'm Bolt!" the dog announced. Lily gasped—dogs couldn't talk!

Bolt explained he was a lightning dog from the clouds. He'd fallen through a hole in the sky during a storm. Now he needed to get back home before his lightning powers faded away.

"I can help!" Lily said. She remembered the old telephone cable behind her house. It stretched all the way up the hill like a giant metal snake.

"Climb on my back," Bolt said. "Hold tight to my hair!"

Lily grabbed Bolt's fuzzy coat. WHOOSH! They were running faster than anything—faster than her bicycle, faster than her dad's car, faster than the wind itself!

The cable led them upward, higher and higher. Raindrops turned into sparkling jewels around them. Thunder rumbled like a friendly giant laughing.

Suddenly, Bolt stopped. "I need lightning to recharge!" His sparkly collar was dimming.

Lily had an idea. She spotted a storm cloud directly above. "Bolt, jump!"

The dog leaped into the air. ZAP! A bolt of lightning struck him, but it didn't hurt. Instead, Bolt glowed brighter than a thousand fireflies. His fur turned golden with energy.

"Thank you, Lily!" Bolt barked happily. "You helped me find my way home!"

He touched his nose to her cheek. A tiny spark remained behind, warm and tingly.

Every storm after that, Lily looked for Bolt in the clouds. Sometimes she'd see a golden flash—her friend running through the sky, chasing lightning and having adventures.

And she'd smile, knowing she'd helped a friend find their way home.

Moral: Even small acts of kindness can help someone in a big way. Friends help each other, no matter how impossible the task might seem.
