The Dog Who Caught Lightning
Lily loved thunderstorms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky dance with flashes of light. But she never imagined her love would lead to the most magical adventure of her life.
One stormy evening, Lily heard a soft whine outside. She opened her door to find a wet, golden dog shivering on her porch. His eyes sparkled like stars, and he held up his right paw—his palm—almost as if asking for help.
"Come in, little friend," she whispered, wrapping him in a warm towel.
But when lightning flashed across the sky, something magical happened. The dog's palm glowed bright golden, and suddenly, a tiny bolt of lightning bounced from the sky into his paw! He didn't get hurt. Instead, his tail wagged excitedly.
"You're not ordinary, are you?" Lily gasped.
The dog nudged her hand with his nose, then pointed his lightning-filled paw toward the dark window. Lily understood. He wanted to show her something.
They slipped outside into the rainy night. The dog led her to Old Man Jenkins' house, where the power had gone out. Using his glowing palm, the dog directed the captured lightning to spark the generator back to life.
Then they found Mrs. Rodriguez's scared kitten stuck in a tree during the storm. The dog's palm illuminated the darkness, helping Lily climb safely to rescue it.
"You're a Lightning Dog!" Lily laughed as they returned home, dry and warm now. "You catch lightning to help people."
The golden dog's palm still glowed softly as he licked Lily's cheek. She named him Spark.
From that night on, every storm brought adventure. Lily learned that even scary things like lightning could become beautiful when used with kindness. And Spark learned that having a magical power meant nothing without a friend to share it with.
Now whenever thunder rumbles, Lily doesn't just watch from her window. She watches for her best friend, because the most magical adventures happen when you face your fears together—especially when you have a dog who can catch lightning in the palm of his paw.
