The Dog Who Caught Lightning
Max loved baseball more than anything in the world. Every afternoon after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the park, with his golden retriever Sunny bouncing happily beside him. Sunny was the best **dog** in the whole neighborhood – she could catch a ball in her mouth and bring it back before it even hit the ground!
One stormy afternoon, gray clouds gathered above the **palm** trees that lined the park. Max didn't care about the weather. He wound up and threw the baseball with all his might. CRACK! The ball sailed through the air as lightning flashed across the sky.
Sunny leaped into the air, her golden fur glowing in the strange light. She caught the ball – and ZAP! A bolt of **lightning** struck the ground right where she landed.
Max gasped. Was Sunny hurt? But when the smoke cleared, Sunny was standing tall, wagging her tail. Her fur now sparkled like tiny stars, and when she barked, little rainbows danced from her mouth!
"Wow!" Max whispered. Sunny had been touched by magic!
That night, Max's grandma gave him a special **vitamin** tablet before bed. "For strong bones," she said. But Max wondered – would it give him magic powers too?
The next day at the big baseball game, Max stepped up to the plate. The other team laughed – Max was the smallest player! But Sunny sat in the dugout, winking at him.
Max remembered something important: believing in yourself was the real magic. He closed his eyes, swung the bat, and – WHOOSH!
The ball flew higher than anyone had ever seen! It cleared the fence, the trees, and kept going until it disappeared into the clouds.
"Home run!" everyone cheered.
Max hugged Sunny. Her magical fur didn't make him win – it just reminded him that magic lives inside everyone who believes.
From that day on, Max and Sunny played baseball together every day, spreading joy and magic wherever they went. And sometimes, if you looked closely during a storm, you could still see sparks dancing around Sunny like she'd caught lightning all over again.
