The Dog Who Caught a Piece of the Rainbow
Max was a small golden dog with floppy ears and a very big problem. He was afraid of everything. Thunder made him hide under the bed. The vacuum cleaner sent him racing to the safest corner. And most of all, he was afraid of the swimming pool in his backyard.
Every afternoon, his girl Lily would go swimming, calling 'Come on, Max! The water feels wonderful!' But Max just stood at the edge, his paws trembling, watching the blue water sparkle in the sunlight.
One hot summer afternoon, something amazing happened. Max was resting in the shade of the orange tree in the yard when something tumbled down and landed right on his nose. It was an orange — but not just any orange. This one was glowing with soft rainbow colors, pulsing like a gentle heartbeat.
'Oh thank goodness you caught me!' whispered the orange. 'I'm a piece of the rainbow that fell during last night's storm. I need to get back home before sunset, or I'll fade away forever!'
Max's tail gave a little wiggle. He'd never talked to fruit before.
'The only way back is through the magic pool,' the orange continued. 'The water becomes a rainbow bridge at sunset. But we must hurry!'
For the first time in his life, Max forgot about being afraid. His friend needed him! He grabbed the glowing orange gently in his mouth and started running toward the pool — running faster than he ever had before, his golden ears flying in the breeze.
The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold. Max reached the pool's edge. The water wasn't just water anymore. It was shimmering with rainbow colors, swirling and glowing like liquid light.
'Don't be afraid,' the orange whispered in his mind. 'Believe in magic. Believe in yourself.'
Max took a deep breath and — JUMP!
But he didn't sink. Instead, he landed on something soft and glowing. The pool had become a beautiful rainbow bridge, stretching up toward the setting sun. Max walked across it, carrying his precious orange friend, while sparkles danced around them like friendly fireflies.
At the end of the rainbow, clouds fluffy as cotton candy waited. Max placed the orange piece gently onto its home in the sky. It flashed brilliantly and merged perfectly with the appearing rainbow.
'Thank you, Max,' the rainbow seemed to hum. 'You were very brave.'
Max slid back down to his yard, landing softly on the grass. When Lily came outside to call him for dinner, she gasped. 'Max! You're glowing!' Little rainbow sparkles danced in his fur, especially when he was happy or brave.
And from that day on, Max was never afraid of the pool again. He understood that sometimes the scariest things lead to the most wonderful adventures. Besides, he was now the magical rainbow dog — and magical dogs don't hide under beds.
The end.
