The Dog and the Gentle Bull
Toby was the smallest dog on Sunshine Farm. His golden fur was soft like sunshine, but his heart was the biggest of all. Every day, Toby watched the other animals play together. The cows chewed grass in friendship. The chickens clucked happily. But the great bull named Bruno stayed alone in his corner of the pasture.
The other animals whispered that Bruno was mean and scary. Toby's owner said, "Stay away from that bull, little dog. He's not friendly."
But Toby had noticed something. Sometimes, when nobody was looking, Bruno would gently nudge a butterfly onto a flower. Once, Toby saw the great bull use his massive head to shield a baby bird from rain.
One magical summer evening, a terrible storm swept across the farm. Thunder crashed like giant footsteps. Lightning painted the sky bright as day. The animals huddled together in the barn, but Toby couldn't find his favorite toy—a stuffed rabbit he loved dearly.
Toby spotted Rabbit blowing across the rainy field, straight toward the woods where coyotes lived. Without thinking, the little dog dashed into the storm.
The wind pushed Toby down. The rain soaked his golden fur. Just as he reached for his toy, a massive shadow appeared above him. It was Bruno!
The great bull lowered his enormous body, blocking Toby from the wind. With surprising gentleness, Bruno nudged both dog and toy toward the shelter of his own massive frame. Together, they weathered the storm.
When the clouds cleared and sunshine returned, Toby licked Bruno's nose in thanks. The bull's brown eyes softened, and he let out a happy snort.
From that day on, Toby and Bruno became the best of friends. The little dog and the great bull proved that friendship comes in all sizes. Sometimes, the most unlikely friends make the best companions. And sometimes, what others call scary is just someone waiting for a chance to be kind.
Now, every evening at sunset, you can see them—a tiny golden dog curled up beside a giant bull, both watching the stars come out together.
