The Digital Zombie Friend

Lily loved rainy Saturdays. While thunder rumbled outside, she snuggled with her fluffy orange cat, Mochi, on the window seat. But today, Lily's fingers tapped and swiped on her iPhone instead of petting Mochi's soft fur.

Mochi nudged Lily's hand with his wet nose, purring loudly.

"Not now, Mochi," Lily sighed, eyes glued to the glowing screen. Suddenly, the iPhone buzzed and fizzled. Green smoke puffed from the edges! A tiny figure popped out—a little green zombie with purple stitches and one googly eye.

"Brains?" asked the zombie in a squeaky voice. "Oh wait, I mean FRIENDS!"

Lily gasped. Mochi's tail puffed up like a dandelion.

"I'm Zippy!" the zombie cheered, doing a little dance. "I was stuck in that phone for THREE HUNDRED YEARS! Well, maybe three weeks. Time is tricky in there."

Zippy's googly eye landed on Mochi. "Is that your cat? I love cats! Back home, my best friend was a zombie cat named Buttons."

Mochi approached cautiously, then sniffed Zippy's hand. The zombie smelled like cotton candy and old books. Mochi purred and rubbed against Zippy's leg.

"See?" Zippy beamed. "Cats have excellent judgment."

Lily giggled. For the next hour, the three of them played hide-and-seek, built a pillow fort, and had a tea party with juice boxes. Zippy told funny stories about Zombie Land where zombies danced instead of walked, and plants grew jellybeans instead of leaves.

"I miss home," Zippy said finally, his smile fading.

"Maybe I can help," Lily said. She grabbed her iPhone and opened the drawing app. With Zippy directing and Mochi batting at the screen (adding accidental paw prints that looked perfect), they drew a map back to Zombie Land.

Lily typed the special words Zippy whispered, and—POOF!—Zippy spun like a green tornado and disappeared into the screen.

A message appeared: THANK YOU FOR THE BEST ADVENTURE! - Zippy

That night, Lily's mom found her asleep with Mochi curled on her chest. The iPhone lay forgotten on the floor.

"Best day ever," Lily whispered in her sleep, Mochi purring in agreement.

Sometimes the best adventures aren't on screens at all—especially when you have a cat, a little zombie friend, and a big imagination.
