The Deep Blue Zombie Friend

Lily found the sparkly blue hat washed up on the beach one Tuesday morning. It shimmered like captured moonlight, and when she put it on, something magical happened—she could breathe underwater!

That afternoon, Lily went swimming deeper than she'd ever gone before. The ocean was a world of swirling pearls and singing fish. But then she saw something strange—a pale green creature who looked like a zombie, drifting sadly near an old shipwreck. He had floppy hair and the kindest eyes she'd ever seen.

"Are you a zombie?" Lily asked, floating closer.

The creature shook his head. "I'm Zed, and I'm not scary at all. I'm just weak." His voice sounded like bubbles. "I haven't eaten my sea-spinach in weeks because the current carries it away."

Lily remembered the spinach in her lunchbox—her mom had packed extra. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the green leaves, still fresh thanks to her magical hat.

Zed's eyes widened. "Is that... spinach?"

He ate it eagerly, and suddenly his pale green skin turned bright and vibrant. His floppy hair stood up like coral. "Thank you! Spinach gives sea creatures special strength!"

Zed showed Lily his hidden treasure—beautiful pearls and ancient coins from the shipwreck. "Pick one, as thanks," he said.

Lily chose a pearl that glowed like the moon. "Can we be friends?" she asked.

Zed beamed. "Every swimming day!"

When Lily got home, she told her mom everything. Her mom just smiled. "That's wonderful, dear. Would you like more spinach in your lunchbox tomorrow?"

Lily grinned. "Yes please—my friend might need it."

And every swimming day after that, Lily wore her magical blue hat, packed extra spinach, and visited her zombie friend Zed, who turned out to be the most wonderful, spinach-loving, treasure-sharing friend anyone could ever ask for.
