The Day Lightning Played Baseball

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, she'd practice swinging her old wooden bat in the backyard, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But today was different. The sky had turned an angry shade of purple, and thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy.

Emma didn't care. She stepped up to the plate, imaginary crowd roaring in her head. She wound up, swung with all her might—and something amazing happened. A real baseball appeared out of nowhere! It glowed with an electric blue light.

"Want to play?" a voice rumbled. Emma looked up. Standing there was the biggest **bull** she'd ever seen, but this one had wings like a dragonfly and fur that shimmered like rainbows. Beside him stood a gentle **bear** with a honey-colored coat and a friendly smile.

"I'm Betsy," the bull said softly. "And this is my best friend, Barnaby. We saw you practicing. You have a wonderful swing!"

Emma's eyes widened. "You want to play baseball with me?"

"We'd love to!" Barnaby the bear chimed in. "But we'll need more players."

Suddenly, the storm clouds above swirled together. **Lightning** flashed—not scary, but playful—and a figure made of pure light zipped down to the field. It had a body like a crackling spark and a smile brighter than the sun.

"Call me Flash!" the lightning creature cheered, doing cartwheels through the air. "I've always wanted to try this game!"

And so the most magical baseball game began. Emma pitched, Betsy the bull hit balls that sparkled through the air, Barnaby caught everything with his fuzzy paws, and Flash ran the bases so fast he left trails of light. When Emma finally hit her first home run, Flash zoomed after it and caught it just before it disappeared into a cloud!

"You're a natural!" all three friends shouted together.

They played until sunset, when the magical creatures had to return to the sky. But before leaving, Betsy gave Emma a special baseball that glowed whenever she felt lonely. "We'll always be your friend," she promised. "Whenever you practice, we'll be watching from the clouds."

Emma waved as they disappeared into the twilight, clutching her magic baseball. Some people said storms were scary, but she knew better. Storms just meant her friends were coming to visit, and the best baseball games were yet to come.
