The Day Goldie Turned Everything Orange
Lily loved her goldfish Goldie, who swam in circles in his glass bowl on her windowsill. She also loved Buster, her scruffy brown dog who chased his tail and slept in sunny patches on the carpet.
One Tuesday, something extraordinary happened. Lily was eating an orange for snack when a tiny piece fell and splashed right into Goldie's bowl. The orange slice turned into glowing bubbles that Goldie swam through. Suddenly, Goldie began to shimmer!
Barker started barking excitedly as Goldie floated right out of his bowl, surrounded by magical orange bubbles. Goldie could swim through the air!
"Let's go on an adventure!" Goldie said in a tiny bubbly voice.
Lily couldn't believe her ears. She grabbed Buster's leash and they all went running outside. Everywhere Goldie swam, things turned the most beautiful shade of orange. The green grass became soft orange carpet beneath their feet. The blue sky turned into a warm orange sunset filled with orange stars shaped like fish.
They ran through the park where ordinary children were playing, but they couldn't see the magic – only Lily could. Goldie swam loops around the swings, turning them orange. Buster chased orange butterflies that Goldie created with a swish of his tail.
"Being ordinary is boring," Goldie said, doing a flip. "Magic is much more fun!"
They ran all the way to the pond where Goldie usually swam in the summer. But now the pond was filled with orange water that sparkled like liquid sunshine. Goldie dove in and splashed orange droplets into the air.
Lily sat on the grass with Buster curled beside her. She watched Goldie dance through the orange water, creating rainbows with every splash.
"Magic is best shared with friends," Lily whispered.
Goldie heard her and swam close. "That's the best lesson of all."
As the sun began to set, the orange magic slowly faded. Goldie swam back into his bowl, Buster curled up for a nap, and Lily placed the orange peel beside Goldie's bowl.
"Same time tomorrow?" Lily asked.
Goldie blew a perfect orange bubble. "Only if you share your orange."
