The Crystal Pyramid Pool
Lily couldn't believe her eyes when she spotted the shimmering golden object at the bottom of the swimming pool. It was the last day of summer vacation, and she had the entire pool to herself.
She dove deep, her fingers closing around something smooth and pyramid-shaped. When she surfaced, gasping for breath, she held up a miniature crystal pyramid that caught the sunlight, sending rainbows dancing across the water.
"What are you?" Lily whispered, wiping water from her eyes. She thought about taking a picture with her mom's iPhone, which she'd borrowed for the day. But as she held the pyramid up to the phone's screen, something magical happened.
The pyramid began to glow! The iPhone screen showed not just the pyramid, but a tiny door opening in its side. A small blue creature with silver wings popped out, waving cheerfully.
"Hello, Lily!" the creature squeaked. "I'm Pip, guardian of the Crystal Pyramid! You've found our hidden portal!"
Lily nearly dropped the phone in shock. "You can see me?"
"Through your magical window, yes!" Pip chirped, fluttering around the screen. "The Crystal Pyramid Pool connects our worlds. But only kind hearts can find it."
For the next hour, Lily and Pip became the fastest of friends. Pip showed her the magical kingdom inside the pyramid, where pools of starlight flowed upward instead of downward, and fish could fly through trees like birds.
"Can I visit you there?" Lily asked.
"Someday," Pip smiled. "But first, you must share this magic with others. The greatest adventures are better with friends."
Lily thought of her three best friends, who would be arriving for their end-of-summer party tomorrow. She smiled at Pip through the screen.
"I know just who to bring."
As the sun began to set, the pyramid's glow faded. Pip waved goodbye. "See you soon, friend! Remember—magic grows when shared!"
That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of tomorrow, when her friends would finally meet Pip. She had discovered something wonderful: the best discoveries aren't just about what you find, but who you find it with.
The crystal pyramid sat on her nightstand, still shimmering with starlight, waiting for the next adventure to begin.
