The Courage Vitamins of Starlight Pond

Luna loved visiting her grandmother's farm, especially because of Barnaby—a friendly old dog with floppy ears and a heart bigger than the meadow. Every summer, they'd have adventures together.

One afternoon, Luna discovered something magical. Behind the old oak tree, she found a pond that shimmered like liquid diamonds. Floating in the center was a goldfish with scales that changed color—ruby one moment, emerald the next.

"Hello," said the goldfish, and Luna nearly fell over. "I'm Finley, the keeper of Starlight Pond."

Finley explained that he had something special for Luna. "These aren't ordinary snacks," he said, producing tiny glowing crystals. "They're courage vitamins. One bite gives you bravery for exactly three minutes."

Luna giggled and ate one. Suddenly, her feet felt light as feathers. She could have climbed a mountain!

"What will you do with your courage?" Finley asked.

Just then, she heard a sad mooing from the hillside. It was Ferdinand—a massive bull who everyone said was the grumpiest creature in the valley. But today, he looked different. He was stuck in a muddy ditch, his horns tangled in blackberry vines.

Luna's courage vitamin still pulsed through her. "Barnaby, help!" she called.

Together, Luna and Barnaby rushed to Ferdinand. The bull's eyes were wide with fear. People always ran away from him, assuming he was dangerous. But Luna saw something else—loneliness.

"We're here to help," she said softly, and Finley's magic seemed to glow in her pocket.

Barnaby licked Ferdinand's nose, and the bull relaxed. With Luna pulling and Barnaby digging, they freed Ferdinand within minutes. The bull stood up, shook off the mud, and did something surprising: he gently nuzzled Luna's shoulder.

"Thank you," Ferdinand whispered. "Everyone thinks I'm scary. I've been alone so long."

"Not anymore," Luna said, and she meant it.

That summer, an unlikely friendship blossomed—the girl, her dog, a magical goldfish, and the once-lonely bull. Finley's courage vitamins taught Luna something important: sometimes the bravest thing you can do is show kindness to someone who needs it most.

And every time she visited, Finley had more vitamins ready. But Luna found she didn't need them as much anymore. True courage, she discovered, comes from the heart.
