The Corporate Pyramid

The weight of the secret sat heavy in Elena's chest, a burden she'd have to bear alone. Three weeks as a corporate spy within Apex Industries, and she'd finally found what her competitors hired her to uncover: the truth about their revolutionary new algorithm.

She stared at the glass pyramid on her boss's desk—a paperweight that symbolized everything wrong with this place. The corporate structure was a pyramid scheme of ambition, those at the top crushing those beneath. Marcus, the CEO, had spent years bullshitting his way through press conferences, taking the bull by the horns in public while letting his executives handle the actual work.

"You're drowning out there," Sarah had told her yesterday by the swimming pool, their weekly sanctuary from office politics. "Swimming in data you can't make sense of."

Sarah didn't know. Sarah couldn't know that Elena wasn't drowning in data, but in deception. Every morning, Elena slipped into her role, playing the loyal employee while quietly feeding information to their rivals. The money would set her up for life, but the cost—betraying the colleagues who'd taken a chance on her—kept her awake at night.

The algorithm wasn't revolutionary. It was stolen code, repackaged and polished. Marcus had built his pyramid on someone else's foundation.

Elena's fingers hovered over the send button, the whistleblower report ready to expose everything. She could be the hero, destroy the pyramid scheme from within. Or she could finish the job, take the money, and disappear.

Her phone buzzed. Sarah: "Marcus called an emergency meeting for 8 AM tomorrow. Something big."

Elena deleted the whistleblower report. Sometimes, the only choice was which burden you chose to bear.
