The Coconut Zombie Surprise

palmdogzombie

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the ocean. The best part was the giant palm tree in the backyard, with coconuts that looked like brown balls hidden high in the leaves. But Lily's very favorite thing was Buster, Grandma's golden dog with ears that flopped when he ran.

One sunny afternoon, Lily and Buster were playing catch when something tumbled from the palm tree with a soft THUMP. It wasn't a coconut at all. It was a little green creature with stitching up its side and button eyes that blinked in the sunlight.

"Is that... a zombie?" Lily whispered. But this zombie didn't look scary. It smiled and wiggled its leafy arms.

Buster ran over and gave the little creature a sniff. The zombie giggled and patted Buster's head. The dog's tail started wagging so hard his whole body shook.

"I'm Zomby," the creature said in a voice like rustling leaves. "I fell from my home in the palm tree! I was made from coconut husks and magic wishes!"

Lily's eyes grew wide. "Magic wishes?"

"Yes!" Zomby said. "I grant one wish to anyone who helps me. But first, I need to get back home."

Lily looked at the tall palm. Buster barked and dug at the dirt beneath it. Suddenly, something shiny caught the sunlight—a buried treasure box!

Inside were glowing seeds. Zomby gasped. "These are wish seeds! My creator hid them long ago!"

Lily realized something important. "Zomby, if you grant wishes, why don't you just wish yourself home?"

Zomby looked thoughtful. "Because magic works best when friends help each other."

Lily lifted Zomby high, and Buster cheered as the little creature climbed back into the palm tree. Zomby appeared at the top and sprinkled golden dust down upon them.

"My wish for you," Zomby called, "is that you always remember—friendship is the strongest magic of all!"

That night, Lily drifted to sleep with Buster curled beside her, knowing she had discovered something wonderful: sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the kindest friends, and helping others is its own special magic.
