The Cloud Who Was Curious

spywaterrunning

High above the mountains, there floated a very small cloud named Nimbus. While the other clouds were content drifting lazily across the sky, Nimbus was different. She was a cloud of great curiosity—a cloud who wanted to be a spy.

"I want to see what happens down there," Nimbus would say, pointing her fluffy white finger toward the Earth below. "I want to discover all the secrets!"

One windy afternoon, Nimbus got her chance. A strong breeze scooped her up and carried her downward, closer and closer to the ground. As she descended, something magical happened—she transformed into a single, perfect droplet of water.

*SPLASH!* She landed in a sparkling mountain stream.

Nimbus began running downstream, bubbling with excitement. The water rushed over smooth stones and under fallen logs. She swirled and danced, seeing everything with fresh eyes.

"Hello there!" called a voice. A bright green frog sat on a mossy rock. "I'm Freckle. Are you new to these waters?"

"I'm Nimbus!" she bubbled. "I'm a spy, here to discover all the secrets of the stream!"

Freckle laughed. "Well, Secret-Spy Nimbus, let me show you something wonderful."

He led her to a shallow pool where sunlight danced on the surface. There, tiny silver fish darted between rainbow-colored pebbles. Dragonflies zoomed like tiny helicopters, and butterflies dipped their wings to drink.

Nimbus had never seen anything so beautiful. For days, she traveled downstream, running and exploring. She spied on baby ducks learning to swim. She watched beavers build their lodge. She made friends with a singing water sprite named Drip who taught her that every droplet of water was connected—part of one big, wonderful family.

But then Nimbus grew worried. "I've discovered so many secrets," she told Drip sadly. "But how will I ever share them with the clouds above? I'm just a little droplet now."

Drip smiled mysteriously. "Come with me."

Together, they traveled to a wide, beautiful lake. There, the sun warmed the water, and something magical began to happen. Nimbus felt lighter and lighter, rising upward as vapor, carrying all her memories and stories with her.

*UP, UP, UP* she floated, back to her cloud friends in the sky.

"Nimbus!" they cried. "Tell us everything!"

And so Nimbus became the cloud who taught all the other clouds about the wonders below—about singing frogs and dancing fish, about friendship and adventure and how the water connects them all.

And sometimes, when she tells her stories, little droplets of joy rain down upon the earth, carrying her secrets to every stream, puddle, and pond.
