The Cloud Who Wanted to Be a Dog
Lily was a little cloud who floated high above the world, watching children play below. She was the fluffiest, whitest cloud in the sky, but she was also the loneliest. Clouds don't have friends—they just drift apart.
One afternoon, Lily spotted something wonderful below: a golden retriever named Barnaby, RUNNING through a meadow filled with buttercups. His tongue flopped happily as he chased butterflies, and his tail wagged like a metronome playing a joyful song.
Lily had never seen anything so beautiful. She wanted to be a dog too!
That night, when the moon rose like a silver coin, Lily did something clouds never do. She swooped down, down, down until she floated just above Barnaby's doghouse. Barnaby looked up with sleepy eyes and smiled.
"Hello, cloud-friend," he whispered.
Lily was shocked. He could see her! She drifted closer, and Barnaby told her about his adventures—about SWIMMING in the creek where minnows tickled his paws, about digging holes to find buried treasure (usually old bones), and about how his human gave him a special VITAMIN treat every morning that made his coat shine like sunshine.
"What's a vitamin?" Lily asked, her voice like wind through willow leaves.
"It's magic in a tiny package," Barnaby explained. "My human says it keeps me strong and healthy. But I think the real magic is love."
Lily's heart—do clouds have hearts?—swelled with happiness. She had found a friend!
Every day after that, Lily learned something new. She learned that running wasn't just about moving fast—it was about chasing joy. She learned that swimming wasn't just about water—it was about feeling free. And she learned that vitamins weren't just about health—they were about caring for someone you love.
But clouds can't stay on the ground forever. One morning, Lily felt the wind calling her back to the sky. She didn't want to leave Barnaby.
"Go on," Barnaby said, nuzzling her fluffy edges. "You'll make beautiful rain for the flowers. That's your gift."
Lily floated upward, but she wasn't lonely anymore. She realized something wonderful: friendship doesn't need to stay in one place. It lives in your heart, whether you're a cloud in the sky or a dog on the ground.
And sometimes, on rainy days, when you look up at the clouds, you might see one shaped like a dog, running and playing forever in the sky. That's Lily and Barnaby, showing the world that the best VITAMIN of all is love—because love makes you strong, makes you brave, and makes every day an adventure worth sharing with a friend.
