The Cloud That Forgot to Dream

lightningzombierunning

Luna loved nothing more than running through the meadow behind her house, especially on days when the sky turned the color of bruises. Her grandmother called them stormy days, but Luna called them adventure days.

Today, the air crackled with something electric. Luna's bare feet tapped against the grass as she ran toward the edge of the woods, where strange things always happened. That's when she saw it—a gray cloud hovering just above the treetops, barely moving.

"A zombie cloud!" her grandmother had warned her about these. Clouds that got stuck and forgot how to float, forgot how to rain, forgot how to dream. They just hung there like sleepy ghosts.

But this one looked lonely, not scary. Its edges were soft and fuzzy, and it seemed to be watching her.

"Hello," Luna whispered. The cloud didn't answer, but it drifted closer.

Suddenly, the sky flashed. Lightning—bright and beautiful—danced across the darkening sky. Most children would be frightened, but Luna wasn't. She knew lightning was just nature's way of stretching.

"CRACK!" A bolt struck nearby, and something magical happened. The zombie cloud began to glow from the inside, turning from dull gray to shimmering silver. It wasn't stuck at all—it was waiting!

Luna realized the truth: zombie clouds weren't broken or cursed. They were just charging up, like her mother's phone. They needed the lightning to wake them up, to fill them with magic so they could dance across the sky again.

The cloud sparkled one last time, then floated upward, joining a flock of happy clouds racing toward the horizon. A single raindrop fell on Luna's nose—like a thank-you kiss.

She ran home, her heart full of wonder. Sometimes things that seem scary or strange are just waiting for someone to understand them. And sometimes, even zombie clouds just need a little lightning to remember how to dream again.
