The Cloud Bull's Thunder

Lily peered into her glass bowl where Finnegan, her bright orange goldfish, swam in lazy circles. He was no ordinary fish. Last Tuesday, he had blown a bubble that popped and whispered, "Would you like to see where thunder comes from?"

Now, as rain tapped against her window, Finnegan swam to the surface and blew another bubble — bigger this time. It popped with a sound like a tiny bell, and suddenly Lily wasn't in her room anymore. She was floating on a soft cloud, with Finnegan swimming beside her through the air as if it were water.

"Follow me!" Finnegan called, his sparkly tail shimmering. "My friend needs help!"

They drifted through misty clouds until they saw him — a massive bull made entirely of storm clouds, with lightning crackling around his horns. But he wasn't fierce. He was curled in a ball, sniffing.

"Nobody wants to play with me," the Cloud Bull rumbled, and thunder shook the sky. "Every time I laugh, it's too loud. Every time I run, I knock stars down."

Lily's heart squeezed. She knew what it felt like to be too much for people. "Maybe we can help!" she said.

Finnegan darted around the bull's cloudy horns. "I have an idea!" He blew a stream of glittery bubbles that wrapped around the bull's lightning like sparkling reins.

"Hold still," Lily whispered, reaching out. When her hand touched the bull's cloudy nose, something magical happened. His lightning softened into warm golden light, and his rumble became a gentle purr.

"You're not scary," she said. "You're magnificent!"

The Cloud Bull's eyes widened. "You... you're not afraid?"

"Nope," said Finnegan. "You're our friend now."

That night, for the first time, the thunder didn't boom — it hummed a lullaby. And every rainstorm after, Lily would see Finnegan dart to the window, blowing bubbles that carried her giggles up to the clouds, where her enormous friend was waiting to play.

Because sometimes the things that seem the scariest are just the loneliest — and kindness can turn any storm into magic.
