The Cat With Magic Hair
Lily's cat, Barnaby, was no ordinary cat. His hair was the fluffiest, most extraordinary hair anyone had ever seen—it shimmered like rainbow cotton candy and changed color with his mood. When he was happy, it turned pink like cotton candy. When he was curious, it became a curious purple. And when he was sleepy, it was soft and blue.
One hot summer day, Lily and her family went to the beach. But Lily was afraid of the deep water. She sat on the sand, watching other children splash and play, while Barnaby rolled happily in the warm sand, his hair turning a cheerful yellow.
Suddenly, Barnaby trotted toward the ocean. Lily gasped—Barnaby had never liked water before! But instead of running away from the waves, her cat kept walking, right into the sparkling blue sea.
"Barnaby!" Lily cried, running after him. But she stopped in amazement.
Barnaby wasn't sinking. His magical, fluffy hair was puffing up like a cloud, making him float! He began swimming through the water as if he were flying through the sky, his hair creating little rainbows in the splashes around him. The cat was swimming!
The other children gathered around, pointing and laughing with delight. Even the grumpiest old crab on the beach had to smile.
Barnaby swam back to shore and shook himself dry, his hair turning a triumphant gold. He looked at Lily with big, knowing eyes and gave a soft meow that said, "See? The water is nothing to fear."
Lily stepped into the shallow water, then deeper. With Barnaby swimming beside her like a fluffy, rainbow-colored lifeboat, she wasn't scared anymore. She discovered that swimming felt like flying—like magic.
"Thank you, Barnaby," Lily whispered, hugging her dry, magical cat. "You're the bravest cat in the whole world."
Barnaby purred, his hair turning a warm, happy orange. He knew that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is help a friend find their courage. And that was the best magic of all.
