The Cat Who Wove Baseballs from Sunset Hair
Timmy was the smallest boy in his neighborhood, with hair that flopped over his eyes when he ran. Every day after school, he'd peek through the fence at the town pool, watching the bigger kids play baseball in the field next door. He wanted to join, but he was too shy.
One hot afternoon, Timmy sat by the pool, eating an orange. Suddenly, a tiny cat appeared—its fur was the exact color of sunset oranges and peach clouds. The cat had the most peculiar hair: long, flowing strands that shimmered like golden thread.
"I'm Mango," the cat said, surprising Timmy. Cats didn't talk! "And you need help."
Mango plucked a strand of its magical hair, which instantly transformed into a perfect baseball. "These are friendship balls," Mango purred. "When someone hits one, they find a new friend."
Timmy tossed the magical baseball into the field. The biggest kid, Jake, caught it and smiled. "Hey! Want to play?"
For the first time, Timmy stepped onto that baseball diamond. With every hit from Mango's special baseballs, more kids joined the game. They laughed, ran, and played until the streetlights flickered on.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Mango curled up beside Timmy. "The magic wasn't in the baseballs," the cat whispered. "It was in you—all you needed was courage to try."
That night, Timmy fell asleep with new friends, a full heart, and dreams of next week's game. Mango had vanished, but sometimes, if you look closely during a sunset, you can still see orange cats weaving friendship magic wherever lonely children need it most.
