The Cat Who Watched the Rain

Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunbeams, Mittens loved to sit by the window and watch the water. Rain water, pond water, even the water dripping from the gutter fascinated her.

One rainy afternoon, Mittens noticed something strange. Tiny creatures no bigger than her paw were dancing in the puddles! They were Water Sprites, magical beings who made raindrops sparkle and rivers flow. But they looked worried.

"The Storm King is coming!" whispered the smallest sprite. "He wants to turn all the world's water into dark, angry clouds!"

Mittens knew she had to help. That night, when her family slept, she became a secret spy for the Water Sprites. She crept through the garden, her soft paws making no sound. She discovered the Storm King's plan: he was hiding in the old well, preparing his attack!

The sprites were too small to stop him alone. They needed someone brave, someone quick, someone who could spy unseen.

Mittens devised a clever plan. She led the sprites to the well, then used her favorite toy—a shiny mirror—to catch moonlight. The reflected beams made the well water glow with magic! The Storm King, frightened by the bright light, dissolved into mist and floated away harmlessly.

The Water Sprites cheered! They made Mittens an honorary Guardian of Water. From then on, whenever it rained, Mittens would sit by the window, watching over her tiny friends.

Mittens learned that even the smallest creatures can make the biggest difference. And sometimes, the best adventures come from helping friends in need.
