The Cat Who Walked on Water

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's cottage by the lake. Every summer, she'd spend hours skipping stones and watching the ripples dance across the water. But this summer felt different.

On her first morning, a silver cat with emerald eyes appeared at the door. It didn't meow—it simply stared at Lily, then turned and walked toward the lake.

'That's strange,' Lily whispered, following.

To her amazement, the cat stepped onto the water and kept walking, as if the surface were solid glass. Lily held her breath and stepped out too. Her feet didn't sink!

The cat led her across the shimmering lake toward something she'd never seen before—a golden pyramid rising from the middle of the water, its peak touching the clouds.

'Come,' the cat seemed to say with a flick of its tail.

Inside the pyramid, Lily gasped. The walls glowed with moving pictures of children playing. In the center sat a curious game—a padel court, but the rackets were studded with gems that pulsed with light.

The silver cat batted a ball toward her. When Lily's hand touched the racket, warmth spread through her fingers. She hit the ball, and it burst into sparkling butterflies.

'Your turn,' she told the cat.

Amazingly, the cat grabbed a tiny racket in its mouth and returned the shot perfectly. The ball transformed into a shooting star that zipped around the pyramid, leaving trails of rainbow light.

They played for hours, each hit creating something magical—flowers, stars, singing birds, fountains of glowing mist. Lily laughed until her sides hurt.

Finally, the cat touched its paw to Lily's forehead, and she understood: this pyramid was built by children's imagination, kept alive through play and wonder. The cat was its guardian.

'Thank you,' Lily whispered as she walked back across the water.

The silver cat purred and disappeared into ripples.

Lily ran back to the cottage, her heart full. She knew now that magic was real—you just had to know where to look, and never stop playing.
