The Cat Who Walked on Lightning
Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice and napped in sunbeams, Mittens dreamed of adventures. Every night, she would sit on her windowsill watching the stars, wondering what magic lay beyond her cozy home.
One stormy evening, as flashes of lightning illuminated the sky, Mittens spotted something peculiar. A glowing golden hat tumbled through the air, carried by the wind like a golden leaf. It landed with a soft plop right in her garden!
Curious, Mittens crept outside. As soon as her paw touched the magical hat, it began to purr like a kitten. Suddenly, a gentle voice echoed from nowhere and everywhere at once.
"You have found my crown, little friend."
Mittens looked up to see a magnificent sphinx perched on the garden fence. Its lion body gleamed in the storm light, and its human face wore a warm smile.
"I am Zarathustra," the sphinx said kindly. "That hat carries the power to walk on lightning. I dropped it during my journey across the storm clouds."
Mittens's eyes widened with wonder. "Walk on... lightning?"
"Indeed," Zarathustra purred. "But first, you must answer my riddle: What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"
Mittens thought hard. She remembered watching her human family through the day. "A person! They crawl as babies, walk on two legs grown-up, and use canes when they're old!"
"Correct!" The sphinx beamed. "You are wise beyond your fur. Please, keep the hat. Use it well, and remember: true magic comes not from power, but from kindness and courage."
With the magical hat upon her head, Mittens felt light as a feather. When lightning flashed again, she stepped onto the glowing bolt and danced among the clouds, seeing the world like never before.
From that night on, Mittens became the guardian of storms, guiding lost ships home with her lightning walks and sharing stories with Zarathustra. She learned that the biggest adventures begin with a single brave step—and sometimes, a little bit of magic.
