The Cat Who Swam with Stars
One warm summer evening, a small orange cat named Mittens sat by the garden fence, watching children play padel on the tennis court. The whoosh-whoosh of their racquets sounded like magic winds to her.
Every day, Mittens dreamed of joining the fun. But cats don't play padel, and they certainly don't go swimming in the big blue pool nearby.
Or do they?
That night, when the moon rose high and silver, something extraordinary happened. The pool began to glow with twinkling lights, like a bowl of liquid stars. Mittens crept closer, her whiskers twitching with curiosity.
A shimmering fish popped her head above the water. "Welcome, brave Mittens! This is the Moonlight Pool, where impossible dreams come true."
Mittens blinked. "But I'm just a cat. I can't swim."
"In the Moonlight Pool, anyone who believes in magic can swim," said the fish. "And if you're brave enough to try, you'll discover something wonderful."
Mittens took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and stepped onto the first pool ladder. Down she went, deeper and deeper. Instead of sinking, she found herself floating! Her paws moved naturally, and soon she was gliding through the water like a silver fish.
"Look!" cried a voice from above. Three children – Lily, Mateo, and Sophie – peeked through the fence. "That cat is swimming!"
But they weren't surprised. They knew about the Moonlight Pool's magic, because they'd discovered it too on special nights. That's why they were there, holding their padel racquets.
"Want to play?" Mateo asked. "We can play padel in the air above the water!"
And so they did – the most magical game ever. Mittens learned she could bat the ball with her paws while the children hit it with racquets. They played until the stars faded and the pool returned to its ordinary blue.
The next morning, Mittens curled up on her favorite sunny spot, purring with happiness. She had learned something wonderful: sometimes the bravest thing you can do is try something that seems impossible. And sometimes, just sometimes, cats can swim, play games, and make the best friends.
Now every moonlit night, if you listen carefully near swimming pools where children play padel, you might hear the soft splash of paws and the magical sound of laughter.
That's how Mittens became the legendary Cat Who Swam with Stars – and proved that magic is real for those who believe.
