The Cat Who Swam with Stars
Luna was a small black cat with bright yellow eyes, and she had a secret. Every night, when the moon rose high and silver, she would creep through the garden fence to the neighbor's pool.
The pool was ordinary by day. But at night, something magical happened. The water would shimmer with tiny lights, like stars had fallen right into it.
One Tuesday, Luna found she wasn't alone.
A boy named Leo sat at the pool's edge, dangling his feet in the glowing water. He couldn't swim. His older sister said he'd learn someday, but someday felt very far away.
Luna approached quietly. Cats don't usually like water, but Luna wasn't most cats.
"Hello," Leo whispered, surprised. "You're the neighbor's cat, aren't you?"
Luna purred and stepped right into the pool. She began swimming—graceful, flowing movements, like she'd done this her whole life. The starry lights swirled around her.
Leo gasped. "You're swimming! But cats hate water!"
Not Luna. She looked back at him and meowed softly, as if saying, "Come join me."
Something about the cat's confidence made Leo brave. He slid into the water. At first, he panicked. But Luna swam beside him, her sleek fur brushing against his arm like a warm, furry encouragement.
"Just move your paws like I do," Luna's golden eyes seemed to say.
Leo tried. He kicked. He paddled. And suddenly, he was doing it—he was swimming!
They swam together all summer, Leo and Luna, beneath moonlight and starry water. Leo grew stronger and faster. Luna grew fatter from all the treats Leo sneaked her.
By September, Leo could swim across the whole pool. His sister was amazed. His parents were proud. But only Leo knew the truth.
"You're my best friend," he told Luna, giving her an extra salmon treat.
Luna purred, curling up beside him. She had found her person. And he had found his courage.
Some friendships are written in starlight, discovered in glowing water at midnight. And sometimes, the most unlikely teachers show us that we're braver than we believe.
