The Cat Who Swam with Goldfish

Mittens was an orange cat with bright green eyes and the biggest dream in the whole neighborhood. While other cats dreamed of catching mice or sleeping in sunbeams, Mittens dreamed of swimming.

Every afternoon, she'd sit by Mrs. Pennyworth's garden pond, watching the goldfish dart through the water like living jewels. How she longed to join them!

"Come swim with us, Mittens!" the fish would call, their bubbles rising to the surface.

"Cats can't swim," Mittens sighed.

One day, Mrs. Pennyworth was working in her garden. "Here, Mittens," she said, dropping something round and bright beside the pond. "It's a special vitamin for animals. Maybe it'll give you energy."

It was an orange from her tree—plump, golden-orange, and shining in the sunlight. Mittens took a tiny nibble. Then another. Something magical happened! Her paws began to tingle, and suddenly, she felt lighter than air.

The goldfish popped their heads up. "Quick, Mittens! Jump in now!"

Mittens took a deep breath and—SPLASH! She didn't sink. Instead, she floated! She paddled her paws and swam alongside her fish friends. They showed her hidden caves beneath lily pads and rainbow-colored rocks. They played tag through swaying green plants.

For hours, Mittens lived her dream, gliding through the water with her orange fur flowing like seaweed. She learned that sometimes, the most impossible dreams can come true in the most unexpected ways.

As the sun set, Mittens climbed out, shook herself dry, and curled up beside the pond. She knew she'd swim again tomorrow—for friendship and magic made anything possible.

That night, Mittens purred in her sleep, dreaming of orange sunsets, golden scales, and the wonderful secret that cats who believe can do absolutely anything.
