The Cat Who Swam Through Starlight

Lily loved her garden, especially the patch where spinach grew tall and green. But she loved her cat Miso more—a sleek black kitty with bright yellow eyes who purred like a tiny motor.

One evening, as Lily watered the spinach, she noticed something strange. Miso was crouching by the vegetable patch, tail twitching with excitement.

"Come here, Miso!" Lily called.

But Miso didn't come. Instead, the cat stepped right onto a spinach leaf—and didn't fall through. She padded across the leaves as if they were a path, then hopped into a space between two plants and vanished.

"Miso!" Lily gasped.

Curious and brave, Lily knelt and peered into the spinach patch. Between two giant leaves shimmered a pool of silver water. Without thinking, she reached in—and her whole body followed.

She wasn't falling. She was swimming through starlight!

All around her, tiny glowing fish darted like sparks. And there was Miso, paddling gracefully through the magical water, her black fur streaming like midnight ribbons.

"Miso, wait!" Lily cried, surprised she could speak while swimming.

The cat led her deeper until they reached a tiny island where a sad creature sat—a starfish with wild, tangled seaweed hair that floated in gentle waves.

"My hair is such a mess," the starfish sighed when they approached. "I can't see to swim properly."

Lily smiled. "I can help!" She'd learned to braid her own hair last summer. Carefully, she wove the starfish's flowing seaweed strands into beautiful braids that kept the tangles away.

"Thank you!" the starfish cheered. "Now I can swim home before the moonlight fades!" As a gift, she pressed a glowing pearl into Lily's hand. "Visit anytime!"

When Lily and Miso swam back through the spinach patch, they found themselves in the garden again, dripping wet but full of joy.

From that day on, Lily learned that magic hides everywhere—even in spinach patches. And with courage and kindness, you can make friends in the most unexpected places.

Now every night, Miso taps Lily's ankle with her paw, and together they swim through starlight, ready for their next adventure.
