The Cat Who Spied on Dreams
Mittens was no ordinary cat. She was a spy. Every night, she tiptoed through Mrs. Green's garden, her whiskers twitching with secrets. The old woman grew the most peculiar vegetables – glowing pumpkins, singing sunflowers, and shimmering spinach that sparkled like tiny stars.
One moonlit evening, Mittens discovered something extraordinary behind the tomato patch. A mysterious pyramid stood there, built from stacked flowerpots glowing with soft purple light. The pyramid hummed a gentle melody, and curiosity twitched at Mittens' tail.
Inside the pyramid, she found a small creature – a zombie bunny! But don't worry – this wasn't a scary monster. Zombunny was slow and sleepy, with patchy gray fur and one floppy ear that never perked up. He was the guardian of the magic spinach, tasked with protecting it from mischievous garden gnomes.
"Are you here to steal the dreams?" Zombunny asked slowly.
Mittens shook her head. "I'm just a spy. I wanted to know why your spinach glows."
Zombunny smiled (slowly). "This spinach makes wonderful dreams. One leaf, and you dream of flying. Two leaves, and you visit candy kingdoms. Three leaves, and you meet friends who've passed away."
Mittens' eyes widened. Her best friend, a dog named Buster, had gone to sleep forever last winter. She missed him terribly.
But Zombunny shook his head. "Not tonight, little spy. The spinach is for children who've had bad dreams. You? You're already brave. You don't need magic to dream of Buster – you just need to close your eyes and remember."
Mittens realized he was right. She didn't need magic spinach. Her friendship with Buster lived in her heart.
From that night on, Mittens still spied on the garden, but now she helped Zombunny guard the magic spinach. Together, they made sure every child's dreams were sweet. And sometimes, just sometimes, Mittens closed her eyes and dreamed of Buster – no spinach required.
Because the best magic of all is love.
