The Cat Who Spied on Clouds

Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunny patches, Mittens had a special job. Every morning, she would climb the tallest palm tree on the island and perch herself on the swaying fronds, high above the sparkling blue ocean.

From there, she became a spy. Not a spy for secrets or treasure, but a spy for magic.

Mittens watched as the sun painted the sky pink and orange. She spied on schools of dancing fish and flocks of seabirds performing aerial shows. Best of all, she watched the children playing on the beach below, their laughter floating up to her like tiny silver bubbles.

One hot afternoon, Mittens spotted something strange. A boy named Leo was running toward the jungle, tears streaming down his cheeks. Behind him lumbered a enormous shape — a great gray bull with horns that curved like crescent moons!

Mittens scrambled down the palm tree, her paws moving fast. She had to help Leo!

When she caught up, she saw something amazing. The bull wasn't chasing Leo at all. It was trying to return something sparkling — a lost star that had fallen from the night sky!

The bull knelt down and gently nudged the star toward Leo with its soft nose.

"I was afraid," Leo whispered, wiping his eyes. "I thought you wanted to hurt me."

The bull shook its mighty head slowly. Mittens could see kindness in its big brown eyes.

Leo reached out and touched the star. It glowed brighter, filling the jungle with golden light.

"Thank you," he said. "I'm sorry I misjudged you."

The bull nodded, then dissolved into a thousand butterflies that fluttered up to join the clouds.

Mittens purred. She had spied on something wonderful today: the moment fear became friendship, and a boy learned that sometimes, the scariest things can turn out to be the most magical.

That evening, Mittens climbed back up her palm tree, ready for tomorrow's adventures. She knew that magic was everywhere — you just had to know where to look.
