The Cat Who Saved the Lightning Boy

Lily was sitting on her front porch when her orange tabby cat, Marmalade, started pawing at her old iPhone. The screen flickered with strange purple light, even though it had been dead for weeks.

"What is it, Marmalade?" Lily whispered, scratching behind his ears.

Suddenly, the phone beeped! A tiny face appeared on screen - a boy with pale green skin and messy hair who looked kind of like a zombie, but his smile was warm.

"Hello!" said the boy. "I'm Finn, and I'm trapped!"

Lily pressed her face close. "Where are you?"

"In the Lightning Realm!" Finn explained. "I was chasing my puppy during a storm when lightning struck us both. Now I'm stuck between worlds."

Marmalade meowed loudly, and Lily noticed the cat was staring at the big oak tree in their backyard, where lightning had struck last summer. A faint purple glow pulsed from its branches.

"The cat knows!" Finn said excitedly. "Animals can see the magic! Will you help me?"

Lily nodded bravely. With Marmalade leading the way, she approached the glowing tree. The iPhone in her hand grew warm as lightning bugs - real ones made of tiny lightning bolts - swirled around her.

"Hold me up!" Finn called from the phone screen.

Lily lifted the phone toward the tree. A beam of purple light shot from the screen into the trunk. CRACK! The tree split open, and Finn tumbled out, solid and real!

"Thank you!" he cried, hugging Lily and Marmalade. "You saved me!"

Marmalade purred so loudly he sounded like a little motor. Lily learned something important that day: sometimes the scariest-looking "zombies" are just friends waiting to be found, and even an old iPhone can hold magic when you have courage and a good cat by your side.
