The Cat Who Saved a Zombie
Leo loved running through the park after school, his sneakers splashing through every puddle. But today was different. His ginger cat, Whiskers, kept darting ahead, meowing urgently like she had a secret to share.
"Whiskers, wait!" Leo called, chasing her toward the old oak tree. Behind it, he discovered something magical—a shimmering puddle that glowed with rainbow colors, even though the rain had stopped hours ago.
Curious, Leo knelt beside the water. His reflection stared back, but then the surface rippled and a hand reached through—not a scary hand, but a greenish one with friendly wiggling fingers.
"Hello?" a voice echoed from beneath. "Anyone want to play padel?"
Leo gasped as a zombie boy climbed out of the water. But this zombie wasn't like the ones in movies. He had a goofy smile, a flower tucked behind his ear, and a padel racket tucked into his belt.
"I'm Milo," the zombie said shyly. "Everyone runs away when they see me. But I just want someone to play with."
Whiskers rubbed against Milo's leg, purring loudly. "See?" Leo said, smiling. "My cat likes you. And padel sounds awesome!"
All afternoon, they played padel together—Leo, a zombie, and a cat who occasionally chased the ball. Milo wasn't scary at all. He was funny, kind, and the best padel player Leo had ever met.
"Thank you for not running away," Milo said when the sun began to set.
Leo grinned. "Sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the best friends."
As Milo disappeared back through the water, waving goodbye, Leo realized something important: courage isn't about facing monsters. It's about giving people a chance, especially when everyone else is too scared to stop running.
