The Cat Who Rode the Lightning Cable
Mittens was a small orange cat with big dreams. Every night, she sat by the window watching the old cable car swing across the river, its metal line glowing silver in the moonlight.
One stormy evening, as lightning flashed across the sky, Mittens noticed something moving near the cable car station. A huge brown bear was shivering under the wooden platform, paws over his eyes.
Mittens's heart went out to him. Bears weren't supposed to be afraid of anything! She grabbed her favorite blanket and tiptoed outside, raindrops splashing her whiskers.
"Hello?" she called softly. "I'm Mittens."
The bear peeked out. "I'm Barnaby. I got stuck here when the storm started. The thunder sounds like angry monsters."
Mittens patted his giant paw. "The lightning is just nature's fireworks! And I have an idea."
She led him to the cable car. "This magical cable can take us home fast—quicker than lightning!"
Barnaby hesitated. The cable car looked tiny for someone so big.
"I'll go first!" Mittens bravely hopped inside. Barnaby gently pushed the car, and it zoomed across the cable, rain dancing around them like sparkles.
When they reached the other side, Barnaby's house stood just beyond the trees. The bear's face lit up.
"Thank you, Mittens! You showed me that being brave doesn't mean you're never scared. It means doing things even when you ARE scared."
Mittens purred. "And now you have a friend for every storm!"
From that night on, whenever lightning cracked the sky, Mittens and Barnaby would ride the cable car together, turning scary storms into magical adventures.
The other animals wondered why the bear and cat became best friends. But Mittens and Barnaby knew the truth: sometimes the most unexpected friendships shine the brightest.
