The Cat Who Rode Lightning

Mittens was no ordinary cat. She was a small orange tabby who lived in an old lighthouse by the sea, and she loved storms more than anything. While other animals hid during thunderstorms, Mittens would perch on the lighthouse balcony, watching the sky dance.

One particularly fierce night, when lightning flashed brighter than Mittens had ever seen, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning didn't just strike the ground—it spiraled around the lighthouse like a glowing rope. And when the light faded, a creature sat curled on the balcony.

It looked like a cat, but its front half was that of a majestic golden creature with wise, glowing eyes. A sphinx, but tiny as a kitten.

"You're not afraid of storms?" the sphinx-kitten asked, her voice sounding like distant thunder wrapped in silk.

Mittens purred. "I think they're beautiful. Like the sky is putting on a show just for me."

The sphinx smiled, revealing two tiny rows of sparkling teeth. "I am Neferet, guardian of storm clouds. I've been looking for a friend who understands the magic of lightning."

That night, Neferet taught Mittens that lightning wasn't just weather—it was the sky's way of painting pictures. Each bolt told a story: some showed distant forests, others revealed mountain castles, and a few even displayed glimpses of future dreams.

"The world forgets to look up," Neferet said sadly. "They're too busy looking down."

Mittens nudged her new friend. "Then we'll help them remember."

From that night on, whenever storms rolled in, Mittens and Neferet would sit together on the lighthouse balcony. And if you looked carefully during a storm, you might see two small silhouettes outlined against the lightning—one cat and one sphinx, best friends who turned scary storms into the most wonderful shows on Earth.

Mittens learned something magical that night: the best friends often arrive when you least expect them, sometimes even riding on lightning bolts. And if you're brave enough to face what others fear, you might find the most wonderful adventures waiting just for you.
