The Cat Who Played Padel at Midnight
Luna was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunbeams, Luna had a secret: she loved padel. Every night, when the moon rose high, she would sneak to the neighborhood sports court and practice against the wall. Her paws were perfect for holding the racket, and she could dash across the court faster than any human player.
One magical Halloween night, Luna heard a strange noise. *Clomp, clomp, drag.* Through the fence gate shambled a zombie! His skin was green, his clothes were tattered, and he moved stiffly like a broken puppet.
Luna's fur stood straight up. She hissed and arched her back, ready to defend her favorite court. But the zombie didn't want brains. He pointed one bony finger at the padel racket Luna had dropped.
"Play?" the zombie croaked in a voice that sounded like autumn leaves crunching.
Luna blinked. This zombie wanted to play padel? Curiosity won over fear. She nudged the spare racket toward him with her nose.
What happened next amazed Luna. The zombie, whose name was Zed, could play! They volleyed back and forth under the moonlight. Zed wasn't scary at all — he was just lonely. His green skin was from swimming in a magical pond as a boy, and he'd been wandering for centuries looking for a friend.
They played every night after that. Luna taught Zed trick shots, and Zed told Luna stories from long ago. The other animals soon joined them — squirrels as referees, rabbits as ball boys. Even the grumpy old owl came to watch.
Luna learned something wonderful that Halloween night: sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to play with. Friendship can bloom anywhere, even on a padel court at midnight, between a cat and a zombie.
And whenever you see shooting stars, that's just Luna and Zed celebrating another perfect game together.
