The Cat Who Painted Dreams

Lily sat on her front steps, chin in her hands. It was summer, but none of the neighborhood kids were around. Her parents had given her an iPhone for her birthday, but games alone weren't much fun.

A soft meow made her look up. A fluffy orange cat with bright green eyes sat on the sidewalk, tilting its head.

"Hello there," Lily whispered.

The cat blinked slowly and trotted over, rubbing against her leg. Lily scratched behind its ears, and the cat began to purr like a tiny motor.

"I'll call you Mango," Lily said. "Will you be my friend?"

Mango meowed loudly and jumped onto her lap. As Lily petted him, something magical happened. When her fingers brushed against her iPhone, the screen began to glow—not its usual blue light, but sparkling golden waves.

Mango batted at the screen, and suddenly, little pixelated butterflies flew out! They fluttered around Lily's head, leaving trails of rainbow light.

Lily gasped. "Mango, you're magic!"

The cat purred proudly. Together, they discovered that Mango could bring anything from Lily's phone to life. They watched tiny dragons dance around the garden, made digital flowers bloom real petals, and even helped a lost game character find his way home.

"This is way better than playing alone," Lily laughed, chasing a firefly that Mango had conjured from her flashlight app.

That evening, Lily's mom came outside. "Lily, supper's ready! Oh—who's your friend?"

"This is Mango," Lily said. "He showed me that the best magic doesn't happen on a screen. It happens when you share it with someone else."

Mango curled up on Lily's pillow that night, purring contentedly. Lily smiled, knowing she had found something better than any game—a true friend who had turned a lonely summer into the most magical adventure ever.
