The Cat Who Opened the Stars

Lily's cat, Barnaby, was no ordinary cat. He had eyes like golden coins and a tail that twitched when something magical was about to happen.

One night, when the moon hung like a silver coin in the sky, Barnaby jumped onto Lily's windowsill and meowed urgently.

"Come with me," he seemed to say.

Lily followed Barnaby into the backyard, where the shadows danced. Suddenly, the sandbox began to glow. Sand grains swirled upward, forming a gleaming golden pyramid that sparkled like captured starlight.

"Wow," Lily breathed.

From behind the pyramid stepped a sphinx—a tiny creature with the body of a lion and the face of a wise child. Her eyes held secrets older than the moon.

"Welcome, Lily," the sphinx said. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find us."

"Who are you?" Lily asked, her heart pounding.

"I am Nebula, guardian of the Star Pyramid. And you are our new friend."

Barnaby rubbed against Lily's legs, purring loudly. The cat had known all along!

"We need your help," Nebula continued. "The Great Bull—that's Taurus, the bull constellation—has fallen from the sky. Without him, the night loses its way."

Lily looked up. Sure enough, a patch of stars seemed dimmer than usual.

"What can I do?"

"You believe in magic," Nebula said. "That's the most powerful thing in the universe."

Together, they climbed inside the pyramid. Stars swirled around them like glitter in a snow globe. At the center lay the Great Bull, his silver horns gleaming, his eyes closed as if sleeping.

Barnaby approached the bull and touched his nose to the creature's forehead. The bull's eyes opened—galaxy-colored and full of gratitude.

"Thank you, small friend," the bull rumbled like gentle thunder. "I was stuck between worlds until you came."

Lily reached out and touched the bull's golden shoulder. Warmth spread through her fingers.

"You belong among the stars," she said. The bull nodded, and with a flash like a thousand fireflies, he rose upward, blazing a trail of silver light back to his constellation.

Nebula smiled. "You did it, Lily. You saved the night."

Barnaby purred so loudly he sounded like a tiny engine.

"Anytime," Lily said, grinning. "Anything is possible when you have friends—especially ones with fur, wings, or hooves."

From then on, whenever Lily looked up at Taurus blazing in the night sky, the bull's stars seemed to wink. And Barnaby's tail would twitch, as if to say, "That's right. We did that together."
